Coding

It all happens so fast, one second my son is happy and smiling.  The next second he has turned blue, then white with his eyes rolling to the back of his head.   Help is called for and it seems to take an eternity to bring back some color to his face.  I am sure that it was a matter of merely a minute but when you are holding your son, he is surrounded by medical teams and they are yelling he has no pulse time stands still.

30 minutes before this happened Liam's great-grandmother passed away and I believe she was telling the Lord that it wasn't his time to come.   Keep him with his family that loves him so much.   Her last gift to me.

Now Liam is at home after only being kept for several hours of observation after his trach was changed.  I am exhausted but grateful for another day with my son.  Another day to savor each moment with him.

So today's therapy was a butternut squash soup from Eating Well.  Yummy!  A little kick to it from the chipotle pepper.  I think it  will do better next time with a little added cilantro.   Tonight will be a wild rice and mushroom frittata:)

Adventure in the Kitchen

So what does one do when an event occurs that completely changes one's lifestyle?  The old way of life is out and a completely new one begins.   COOK!

A friend gave good advice that New Year's resolutions for the entire year are quite hard to keep, so instead she was going to do one a month.  I decided mine for January would be to try a new recipe each week.  I am in my house more than the average person because of care for my son, Liam, and I decided I would try a new recipe each week.  Well so far 3 this week!!!   The first I won't try again.  The second was new pizza dough and toppings and the third was asparagus frittata.   YUMMY.   Tommorrow is hopefully a butternut squash soup.  Of course only if Liam allows.
.
Cooking is opening my changed world to new adventures and finding new taste buds.   Of course sometimes the 30 minute recipes take an hour or 2 hours because of the care Liam needs during the cooking.

The Present

It is interesting how people are always planning for the future.   Always trying to find out what the next day holds.   It is said that we should live in the moment and seize the day but who really does that?
This blog is about living in a moment. The only moment that really matters which is the present moment.  Enjoying every second of being alive.  Really stopping to smell the roses.   Trying to find the beauty in everything including the harshest and saddest times.
